The Spitfire shown on this website is a Vickers Armstrong Spitfire Mk VIII (Serial Number 6S-583793), which visited Old Sarum a few years ago, writes Paul Sample.

Over 1,650 Mk VIIIs were produced in all, and this Spitfire was powered by a Merlin 266, produced under licence by the Packard Motor Car Company in America.
