BODMIN FLY-IN, 1st MAY 2010 Ladies in Aviation

This year’s Devon Strut Fly-in at Bodmin, Cornwall will be themed ‘Ladies in Aviation’.

The reasoning behind this decision was two fold. Firstly to honour and remember all lady flyers since the early days of flight and exploration to the days of the Air Transport Auxiliary (ATA) when wartime aircraft were delivered by lady pilots as well as men. Then on to our modern times when ladies are flying everything and anything that is available; B52’s, Airbuses, airships, aerobatic mounts, Merlin helicopters, a host of other types and now a Hawk with the ‘Reds’.

Secondly, we would like to encourage lady pilots and enthusiasts from the UK and further a field to head west and visit what is one of the most picturesque areas of the UK.

If Vintage and Classic aviation is your forte, we are also hosting the The Aeronca Club of Great Britain fly-in over the weekend.

Bodmin airfield is ideally suited as a base for touring the area and offers local accommodation or if you wish to camp under the wing there is a club restaurant and bar. As well as lunches being available during the day we will have a BBQ or a hog roast on the Saturday evening.

After breakfast on Sunday 2nd May you may wish to visit the Bolt Head fly-in (near Salcombe in Devon) or visit, Lundy Island, Perranporth etc. or just enjoy the area from the air. (see www.devonstrut.co.uk for all airfield information).

So, come on all you ladies. Let’s get to Bodmin on May 1st and enjoy meeting like minded souls and celebrate the bond we all share--- the joys of flight.

The fly-in will also be an opportunity to “Get to Know the LAA”, the UK’s premier organisation for the promotion of sport and recreational flying.
