The weekend that was

On Sunday (7th March 2010) we held our regular Vintage Sunday event and welcomed a huge number of visitors to the Airfield.

We started the day bathed in glorious sunshine, a theme which carried on for the whole day. Having arrived for work at 07:50 there were people already at the airfield who were keen to get started.

75 visiting aircraft enjoyed the flight in, around 15 people took the vertical decent option and all of the flying training organisations made the most of the 10 knot 'down the runway' breeze and deep blue skies. General aviation spectators filled the car park almost to our maximum limit, a large motorcycle group also popped in to enjoy the day and we have never seen so many aviation photographer's tripods on the field.

Once there was a man

A retired dentist with no small amount of spare time on his hands has created the most detailed model aircraft made entirely out of metal.

Using a pair of tweezers, the controls can be moved. All cables and linkages are in place to work the wing control surfaces as well. Young Park has since carved a pilot's face and hands from solid aluminum and built an articulated pilot to sit in the cockpit.

The Solent Area will be introducing a listening Squawk from 06:30 on Thursday 28th January 2010. Solent airspace is the second most infringed airspace in the UK, a situation they would like to start to resolve with your help.
